On the 27th of November, 2014 at the premises of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania was held the final conference „Consolidation of Government Information Resources: Cloud Computing Solutions“ of the LLB-2-142 project „Promotion of socio-economic development and encouragement of business and entrepreneurship by developing Cross-border R&D and Innovation Network in Cloud computing Area”.

The Conference was organized by the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, Committee on the Development of an Information Society, Vilnius University, Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics and Lithuanian Innovation and Technology Institute.

Dr. Mindaugas Bastys, a Chairman of the Committee on the Development of an Information Society and Vilnius University Rector Juras Banys welcomed all the participants of the Conference. Conference speeches were delivered by cloud computing and information technology experts from Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Belarus and Lithuania. The conference was attended by members of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, representatives of the public sector institutions, IT companies, academia, project LLB-2-142 staff members from Vilnius and Grodno universities, Scientific and Technological Association "Infopark" and Lithuanian Innovation and Technology Institute.

During the Conference were presented information system maintenance models in countries of the EU. It was agreed that information services sector trascends national borders and it is more important than ever to exchange best practices in achieving the most effective applications of information system operational maintenance in public, private or academic sectors.

Project Manager prof. Algimantas Juozapavičius during the Conference gave an overview on the project‘s implementation and activities: prepared training material and implemented training courses for IT specialists, established Cloud Computing Competence Centre, prepared Strategy of the Cloud Computing Cluster and the Study of opportunities and prospects in Cloud computing area for IT enterprises and those that intensively use Cloud computing in the regions of Lithuania and Belarus, with a focus on competence development needs.

Project Board member and General Director of the Scientific and Technological Association “Infopark” spoke about the necessity to continue the cooperation between the countries in the field of Cloud Computing, preparations for a forum and further development of the project’s activities with the focus on e-trade, e-customs, e-border crossing, cross industry e-invoice.

Aurimas Matulis, Business Relations Manager at the Lithuanian Innovation and Technology Institute presented a Cloud Computing Cluster which was established this year, the possibilities for cooperation between the public and the business sector and academia. A. Matulis talked about the private-public partnership (PPP) in the implementation of the state information resource consolidation and implementation of cloud computing technologies in the public sector. Romualdas Povilas Petraitis, Director of the Lithuanian Innovation and Technology Institute spoke about the implementation of the project, organized trainings and events, he also presented the Cloud Computing Competence Centre established at the Institute, possibilities of cooperation in the future projects.

During the final discussion of the Conference all the project partners discussed the implementation of the project activities. Dr. Yuri Vaitukevich, representative of the Grodno State Yanka Kupala University discussed about the activities which took place at the Grodno University, Cloud Computing trainings, university programms prepared for the university students.

Project‘s external expert Dr. Anna Pobol introduced the Strategy for the Cloud Computing Cluster and the concept of the Cloud Computing Competence Centre, which would be a great start for new projects.
